I'm 40 and am stuck living with my parents in an over 50s Lifestyle Resort. I worked in hospitality for my entire working life, until having to leave because I need hip surgery - surgery for which I've now been on the public waiting list for 3 years. Attempts to retrain have proven difficult due to physical requirements of that training and finding employment I can undertake has been elusive. There are also other, long-term physical effects of of this injury which I'm having to investigate.
I couldn't afford my own home before this injury, and now my daughter, 20, has had to return home to live with us because of her health. If I were to rely on inheriting "wealth" from my parents, I'd likely be well into my 60s. They have only just finished paying off their mortgage, and they're over 65. My mum is still working.
Even being able to afford to rent is a pipe dream at the moment, and if it weren't for my parents - and some other very supportive residents in this over 50s resort - my daughter and I would both be homeless.
