I'm a 70 year old who has had to move four times, not by choice, since Covid.
In 2010, I almost had enough to buy a modest home but Government stimulus pushed prices up faster than I could catch up. Then the Hunger Games began.
In 2020, my landlady decided to move in so she could sell the place for twice what she paid 5 years earlier, and I was forced to scramble to find a new place in the middle of Covid lockdowns. (It was sickening to see my mother's buffet, I'd had to leave behind, feature in the ad.)
So I moved to a country town, where rentals are tight, and homes for sale, quickly doubled in price. Then I was flooded, and after 3 months, despite having a lease, I and other tenants were served eviction notices with two weeks to find new homes.
It's not possible to find a removalist in two weeks so I had to move myself (and still carry the injuries from the falls I had then).
Yet I found a place with a different agent. But the owner died recently and now I sit in limbo with no idea whether I'll be homeless before the year is out.
Meanwhile, the leaders of the left and right wings of the Vulture Party smugly promise to make shelter more expensive.
