I have a young friend with 3 children who left her husband in 2024 due to family violence. They were in crisis accommodation for 6 months during which time she was told to search for a private rental. As a single african-australian mum she was routinely put at the bottom of the list by estate agents. Now she is registered with a housing agency and she and the kids are in a hotel. Her 2 week stay ended the other day so she went back to the housing agency and refused to leave until they found accommodation for her and the kids. They threatened to call the police and she said fine, call them. In the end they put her back in the hotel for another 2 weeks.....
